I don't think two doubles is enough in a bedroom these days. It would be quite typical to want one each side of the bed for lamps, clocks etc, and then at least one the other side of the room for a TV etc. If you are talking kids bedrooms where they may typically also want a desk and light, a computer/tv/video game etc as well... and so it goes on!
(which is why I stuck about 8 doubles in each of the new bedrooms I just built).
