And it's not as if EVs are especially heavy in absolute terms, just a bit heavier than a same-size petrol. My Renault 5 is about the same mass as a mid-range Ford Focus. I suspect as a general rule that EVs are about as heavy as the next size up of petrol/diesel, so nothing exceptional.
At the bottom end, a city EV such the Dacia Spring is under a tonne.

2026, now? About 20 feet high and just a little bit _wider_ than the Standard Ancient Byway in any rural English area? And often pulling a slurry trailer or a haybale trailer just as big, and wide, but longer?Eh?

Local contractors for Balfour Beaty, laying replacment road gully drain covers+surrounds plus sewer manhole covers+surrounds henpecking old surface and resurfacing. I did not see them setting in the gully+manhole tops but the buckets left behind marked Larsen MBM 534. Only replaced last week but at least one is clattering. All the new manhole lids are split into 2 triangles. So like milkmaids 3 legged stools, I'd have thought they were immune to rocking ,unlike rectangular ones. This topic turned up on ITV Meridian news yesterday at Alton, Hampshire. Apparently none of the utility companies is claiming responsibility for the clattering manholes there, so nothing is done to remedy.
Round my way there are a number of fully electric double decker buses. Goodness knows how much they will weigh when full of passengers.
Northampton has a lot of electric buses and, as buses are about 80% of traffic in the station and other terminal stops, the air is much less contaminated. From a bit of shallow research, looks as if an e-bus empty is about the same weigt as an ICE bus full.
South Yorkshire has just announced 80% electric buses over the next 5 years. Good.
The difference in London is huge. Having lived there 20 years I really notice.

Southend on Sea council purchased an electric (battery) train to run along the mile and a third long pier. It was delivered in 2021 and is still wrapped in plastic shrink wrap on one of the platforms 5 years later. The diesel train is still running.

It seems that noisy/ clicking manhole covers are becoming more of a problem there is one near me and is very annoying .Just driving through town total of four man hole covers made that annoying sound .All of the covers in question are on recent road works it would seem to me that perhaps the design of the Newley replaced frames and covers need looking into.?
