Noise early on a sunday, and why we cannot make silent tools

Now with all the great strides in technology, how is it that sawing up wood for flooring is still mechanical and not done by a handy black and decker laser device? A friend of mine had to vacate this morning since the neighbour has a tradesperson in fitting a new floor in their kitchen and cutting stuff up outside at 8am. Now I'm sure one could complain to the council and cause a lot of bad feelings and the job would probably be over by the time anyone got their bums off the ground to serve them with a noise abatement order, but as I say, almost everything techy these days has become small and powerful and cordless drills etc abound, but nobody seems to have found a silent way to drill or cut stuff. 8am on a weekday might just be acceptable in an urban environment but a Sunday? ;-(
<snip> >almost everything techy these days has become small and

Cutting / drilling by hand can be much quieter and 'of course' how everything was done for most of the existence of man.

Why is Sunday any different to any other day? These days Sunday is a working day for a growing percentage of the population.

A tiny bit like calling the pot black with your wish that all vehicles should have an annoying reversing beep sound. Around my way delivery trucks with these anti-social devices don't start disturbing local residents as late as 8am, but more like 5am to 6am.
The unwritten rule around my way suggests the 8am is acceptable for creating some noise with DIY or building work. At this time of year you have to make maximum use of the day when it is comfortable to work.

I'm sorry but you cannot compare very brief sounds from electric cars and reversing lorries with long and sustained use of angle grinders, electric saws and hammer drills. One is transient and the other incessant. You are probably one of those people who think all blind people should stay indoors out of sight unless guided by another human, as a number of certain ethnic groups seem to do.. I'm afraid the world has moved onto a more inclusive way of thinking unless you are called Donald Trump that is, in which case the world should all bend as he imagines it should be! No wonder they call him the Fool On the Hill but I doubt even Paul McCartney envisaged such a dipstick on capital Hill. Brian

I think you will find that building work and such should not create any noise on Sunday, if it does the local council can have the site shut down and fines issued.
Unless its an emergency, so I suppose you could have an emergency refit.
If you are in the middle of the country and there are no neighbours to hear it you can do what you like.
That's why there are few roadworks in operation on Sundays, they can't make a noise.

That doesn't explain the other six days of the week when many miles of a motorway are coned off but there is only work being done in one small part (or maybe none at all). It's probably easier for them to pay a crew to come in and cone off the whole length that they will be working on, rather than moving the cones to the bit they are working on that day.
I'm not sure what the official rules about DIY noise are in this country, but I believe some countries such as Germany and Switzerland are very strict both about DIY noise and about where you wash your car.

Really? It's like the ultra-Protestant Scottish islands - Lewis? Harris? - where there is very little that you are allowed to do on a Sunday. I thought German was more enlightened and 21st-Century than that.

There's no such prohibition.
That's just as fake as saying the EU bans fish and chips in newspaper.

There is no legislation that says that. And no legislation that says you can only do that on the other days either.

You can hang your washing as long as you don't make a lot of noise doing so.
Or your landlord hasn't banned it.
There isn't a law forbidding it.
Maybe he should try living in Germany for a bit?
