National Lottery SPAM?

The effect is to double the chance of winning, and therefore on average reduce the individual's share of any prize which is divided between winners, if the rules are otherwise unchanged. It does make rollovers slightly less likely for instance.

Has the email come from the lottery? Is there a link for you to click, confirming your entitlement, whuch would be suspicious.

It is odd. I remember years ago the Lottery saying that big jackpots is what people want and what makes them buy a ticket. It means you are almost certain to lose everything you spend but it's a game and I see the fun of it. Premium Bonds are much less fun because although you are almost certain to get something back from your investment the big prizes are a bit measly.

So National Lottery are really making the lottery a bit more dull.

I found it odd because the email implied it was only for people who subscribe and pay by DD and that wouldn't have been allowed because of how closely games of chance are regulated. However, it seems it's for everybody so that's OK.

Used to be better with fewer numbers to pick in my view.

I was amused when they increased the number of balls that some people felt they would somehow miss out if they did not replay their tickets with the extra numbers.

I think the National Lottery must be under a threat because of all these "Text-In" lotteries I keep hearing on the radio (you just send them a text; if they ring you at 5.00pm on the following Friday (and if you pick up your phone) you win a humungous cash prize (e.g. £770,000 on "Greatest Hits" this week).)

What sticks in my craw is not just the obscene amount that's being touted at god-knows-what odds, but the facts that (a) this must be the easiest way to make massive profits that was ever dreamed up and (b) the Lottery have a whole infrastructure that shares out its profits into the Community: the Text-In games offer no such thing. </drifting off>
