I've just changed the clutch cable (double-ended "joggle" type) on my Mountfield SP530 mower and can't see how the mower end (rather than the handle end) of the outer cable is anchored. Is there an anchor point on top of the gearbox (where I can't see it) or does it just float free(?) in which case how can the adjuster work?
Mountfield mower clutch cable fitting problem

Stand down! After another fumble I've found the recess where the cable outer drops-in. In case it helps anyone else: on the top corner of the gearbox nearest the pulley there is a pocket in which to anchor the cable outer, it's slotted so very easy to get the cable in once you know the pocket is there.
Just to add, that Mountfield as a company doesn't exists anymore. It was sold off circa 2000, and only exists as a brand name. The company and factory that used to exist in the West Country is no more, and most of the mowers are made in Italy.
Thank you for this post as you saved me a great deal of time and hassle. It is not easy to find but you can see the slot when you pull back the pulley and it is just at the back left hand side of the pulley
