Moss on roof

Some 20 years ago, I suddenely became unable to put any weight on my right foot without suffering severe pain. Two local GPs were unable to help, but since I had, then, private medical insurance referred me to a private surgeon. I had an MRI scan which revealed nothing, so I had a radiation scan where the staff said " that doesn't look right", but the surgeon ddin't know what to make of it. My sister-in-law who was a physiotherapist was visting and saw that I was limping. "Oh, every physio knows that problem." And gave me some exercises to improve the circulation in my ankle. Sadly, doctors don't know everything

And rather less rare that the patient presents with symptoms that need very immediate treatment for the best outcome, most obviously with strokes.

No there isn't.

And that?s the reason.

Too long for my liking.

F*ck the Christmas Cheer.

Why do copper roofs go green? Copper pipe or a hot water cyclinder left outside just goes a dark brown.

However the bits of overhead mains incomer open wire copper have gone greenish. The engineers replacing the open wire incomer with coaxial witter something about chrome. Cooper Chromate is green so presumably "roofing copper" is some copper/chrome alloy that oxidises to green.

Copper sulphate from acid rain.

Not always. I have got some with green marks, likely from brick acid.

Its much more complicated than that and I was a chemist once.

Surely CuSO4 would wash away almost as soon as formed.

In moist conditions, copper oxidises and weathers to various hydrated basic carbonates such as malachite (green) and azurite (blue). Malachite is the more common

No chromium is involved. These hydrated carbonates are only sparingly soluble, so copper tape or wire laid across the roof will slowly oxidise and bleed copper ions when it rains, poisoning the moss. Varnished wire will be protected from the elements and won't oxidise, so won't work.

Copper in solution is generally harmful to plants. A suspension of copper sulphate and slaked lime is used as a fungicide known as Bordeaux mixture, and was at one time used extensively in the wine-growing regions of France in the late 1800's and through the last century, to combat various fungus diseases that damaged the grapes. Its use has now been severely restricted, because copper build-up in the soil was damaging the vines.

It is Verdigris.

I confess, I thought it was one of the oxides of copper but, having Googled to check before posting, it is more complex:

The reference mentions Acetic Acid but I'm not aware of that being in the atmosphere so, I assume, it is some other combination of acids which gives the effect.

Certainly other copper items go green- copper wire etc. Coax (as found in TV downleads etc) sometimes goes either green or black if moisture gets in.

except in the vicinity of a fish-and-chip shop!

Carbonic acid, H2CO3, i.e. water plus that awful stuff, CO2. For example, 2Cu + O2 + CO2 + H2O -> Cu2CO3(OH)2, basic copper carbonate or verdigris.

I expect one of the consequences of green energy will be that copper roofs etc will no longer go green!

The moss is still falling off the roof and that will do me.

I recall hearing once about a University that had a copper roof that wouldn't go green. So they piped the urinals on to it...

Andy

An architect I knew many years ago, said that urine was often used for greening copper roofs.

Urine is the Golden Thread throughout most of history ....

Used for all sorts

not so golden if you've drunk a lot of fluids!

Plus quenching iron. But only if it's from a red-headed boy.

The Chinese boil eggs for hours in boys' urine.

Further more, all medicines and treatments are a 'practice'. In order to practice on a person, that person has to sign themselves over to that practice.

Given that, in a court, the only people who have the knowledge of mainstream medicine and surgery is the medical system, a judge has little choice as to who stands correct.

Further again, medicine often attacks the symptom and not the cause. IE, if you have diabetes, there is a good chance you will rid it by reducing white carbs that cap the liver which then leads to eye and heart problems and less obvious, brain problems.

Most designer medicines are extracts of the 'active' ingredient of the very natural thing that would otherwise help. In which case, it becomes a toxin. Trying natural remedies does not cause side effects which often needs more treatment.

UK and USA are, in spite of the great medical knowledge of the supreme West, the sickest people on earth. We have and use the most designer medicines, the most designer foods in beautiful coloured boxes and the sickest peoples AND we are producing the least amount of babies per family.

We are sick by design.

It beats me that humans, some several millions of years old, has made it this far only to become sickly??

Maybe we need more chemicals in the ground, prettier boxes for the 'food'(which you have to read to know what chemicals it contains), and use more GM's? GM's; Using a seed that has been neutralised and frozen in time such that the seeds no longer face, and learn to overcome, the harmful bacteria that fills the air everywhere. Natural foods are our natural vaccines.

Understand this, we are 1 part human and 1.3 parts none human, bacteria which cater for our needs and protect us from small invasions. They look after us inside and out. Given that very few types are harmful to nature, they are the creators and maintainers of all living things. killing them to get rid of a few is f****ng stupid.

Many are, and many are well established, no practice involved.

one of the myths of mainstream medical practice

cobblers. There is no end of outsider self appointed docs & commentators, some of whom know what they're talking about way better than mainstream medics (and of course more don't).

judges tend to be rather naive about the realities of mainstream practice

those 2 are simply wrong

there is a lesson to be learnt there. Odd how few learn it.

I thought the percentage of bacteria was way lower than that

In reality bacterial infection is one of the top killers in developing nations. Over here it's still quite major. Antibiotics have saved great numbers of lives but they're no universal solution to bacterial infection.
