Mobens / Kitchen Direct

Can anyone give me any advice? I have a quote from Mobens but am told they are the same company as Kitchens Direct.. I called out Kitchen direct and they appear to be almost the same in price KD very slightly cheaper. What would be anyones advise before I commit?

My advice is to think very carefully before committing to Moden or anyone of that type. If you do just make sure you withold 1/3 of the payment until after completion. Do a Google an you'll find more bad stories than good :-(

go to google > groups and type moben+kitchen > enter (moben singular - not plural)

Piece of Advice. If you can twirl a screwdriver, or know someone who will, try IKEA, buy it flat packed and build it yourself.

Pretty good quality for whatever price point you go to.

Or buy flat packed from Howdens, (part of MFI).

I thought Howdens were fairly strict on only supplying to the trade? Have I been misled?

Go somewhere else, or the only committing you'll be contemplating will be either murder or suicide.

MMM! Not absolutely sure - mine have always been bought by the builder, but I recently recommended a friend, and they seemed to have no problem when they visited directly.

I was told by Kitchens Direct that they are Moben when they came and did a design for me. I couldn't get rid of the fat biffer and he smelt. Needless to say I never went with them...............

Just had a Howdens kitchen delivered yesterday and yes, they are trade only. My builder is also a mate so he isn't putting a markup on but when we went to choose a kitchen, Howdens wouldn't tell us how much things were because we weren't the customer - the builder is their customer and we are the builders customers.

We are replacing our kitchen and have about 4 days ago commited to a M*ben Kitchens salesman. We were under quite a bit of pressure that the sales discount is invalid if we did not sign on the day and after his departure would not apply. So we paid our deposit. However what we were not told until the time of signing is that the discount only applies if we agree to sign up to their First National Credit agreement for a sum of at least 10k (kitchen cost is 12k). We were told that we only have to pay a maximum of

150.00+- in interest charges if we decided to settle in full after 13 months. Can anyone give me any input on this? Also there are a few questions we have about the Kitchen as the salesman did not clarify that the hood re recirculatory type and not as what we wanted which is extraction to exterior type. As we have already signed up and paid our deposit is there a recourse and can we say within a week arrange the same contract through another of their salesmen or even Kitchens Direct (who we are told are exactly the same wit hthe same level and quality of product?

Any advice will be appreciated.

I believe that as you didn't sign on trade premises, you may have a period in which you can cancel. I think it depends on whether you invited the salesman, or it was a cold call. Have a chat with trading standards to get the facts, don't rely on my opinion.

And this is exactly the reason why I will never again even ask M*ben/Dolph1n/Sh£rps or any other related company to even tender a quote for a job.

Once asked for a Dlophlin quote when I was setting about redoing a bathroom in a previous flat. Their "solution" was unimaginative, wrong ("you can't move the WC - cast iron soil stack" when any fool could see at a glance that it was plastic), and very, very expensive. It was then backed up with a very high pressure sales patter, even when told at the start that there was absolutely no way we were signing anything at the time as other people were coming round for quotes in the following days.

So, we ignored promises of "today only" discounts ("it's the last day of my sales quota period - I can offer this discount so that I can get to the next target") and sent him away. Funnily enough, they phoned every couple of days, offering bigger and bigger discounts ("Well, I don't normally cover this patch - the normal sales rep is away. So I'm giving you all of his commission as well"). Eventually, we just told them that they had lost the deal due to their sales pressure, and another bathroom had just been fitted by a local firm.

The calls stopped...

...then followed by about 6 months of M*ben calling every other week to see if we wanted a new kitchen, even though they were told on the first call that it shoudl have been bloody obvious to the salesman that he was sat in a brand new kitchen when he was sketching out the bathroom (picture a less-than-bright schoolboy concentrating hard in an exam, bent over a pad of paper, pencil in hand, tongue poking out of side of mouth.,.. OK. that bit's not entirely accurate, but adds to comic effect.)

So, if I were you I'd be off down to CAB pretty damned sharpish, or read your contract *carefully* and see if you have a cooling off period. If you do, and you paid with a credit card, and M*ben become arsey about it get on to your card provider. If the contract doesn't mention such a period, don't believe it - ask CAB instead. They may just be neglecting to point out your rights.

After the way that they have just pressured you, would you really want to give M*ben the opportunity to do it to you again? Or another of their (similarly trained) sister company's reps?

Run away from the whole thing, fast.

Have you done a Google on Moben? Or

formatting link
you can't get out of it, I'd suggest (a) making a careful note of everything relevant the salesman said and put it in a letter to Moben (rec del keep copy for use in court if required) and (b) advise them that when the work is complete you will be having it inspected by an independent specialist. This threat (which is probably worth carrying out) may get you one of their 'better' teams.

They are part of the same group - enough said.

KD sent out a (freelance) bloke to do a design for me. Much to my surprise the (disgusting) kitchen that we were replacing was a KD item! More surprising by the fact that the doors were solid oak.

Anyway, bloke said that he couldn't sell us a design or even a kitchen as I insisted on plain, flat doors not covered in sticky back plastic a la Moben but did do a free design!

The long and the short of it is that I now have a very nice Alno kitchen as supplied and fitted by John Lewis Bluewater who could not have been more professional and helpful.

I got cought out like that with them once. Went to get some more staircase spindles to match some that my joiner friend had given me. Alas I made the mistake of going dressed smartly and being half asleep! Got the same problem they would not even quote prices.

It only dawned on me after leaving that I could have played at just being my mates sidekick, or failing that countered their stated objection of "only being licensed to sell business to business", by letting them sell to one of my businesses!

Still their loss, screwfix got the order!
