Dear all, We're planning an extension and we're trying to figure out the best place for a downstairs toilet. We could use our cupboard under the stairs as an entrance to a toilet, but the existing door is only 2'4, and there's no room to make it bigger. A quick google of the uk-diy archives showed some people thought 2'6 was the minimum, to allow for wheelchair access. Does anyone know, is this the case?
If it's relevant, it will be the only ground floor toilet, and currently our front and back doors have three steps leading to them because the house is built nearly 2 feet off the ground. i.e. there's no way a wheelchair user would ever be able to live here anyway!
Also, the toilet itself would be in the new extension, but the access would be from the cupboard under the stairs, which is in the existing part of the house.
