Having issue with memory stick existing files that are on it open ok but when I try to add another file I get this message..

"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. Error 0x0071AC3 could not be completed because the volume is dirty" The files already on it are easily replaced. Should I format the memory stick in an attempt to resolve it?

Main drive is NFTS memory stick is ex fat.

'Dirty' means that the memory stick was removed without ejecting it.

In 'This PC' right click on the item for the memory stick. Go to Properties, then the Tools tab, then use 'Check'. That should clean it up.

A format will work too.

As Bob said check or format may help - format will clean all data off. Is it a reputable manufacturer? There are a lot of fakes around claiming to be high capacity but actually very low capacity.

I updated mine to dual 3.5" floppies - which I picked up directly from the company selling them ... which turned out to be a guy working assembling them in his back bedroom.

Which is why I use H2testw
