Magazines?

I am looking to get some woodworking magazines, general DIY, and furniture making magazines. Can anyone tell me the names of any such magazines so I can buy them. The lady in our paper shop isn't very helpful

Also is it possible to buy them online and have them delivered.

Cheers for the help Jay

I only read the woodworking stuff:

Fine Woodworking. American magazine, and the only one I subscribe to. Great magazine with some absolutely superb work in it. You'll probably hate it at first, because there's a lot of "I'll never make anything that good" about it. But keep reading, you can still learn a lot.

Furniture and Cabinetmaking. Best of the UK mags. I flick through every issue in the shop and buy about one in four. Good quality work.

Good Woodworking. Good magazine, very approachable style. The pieces in here aren't as high-end as the other two mags (much more softwood) but they're more like the things that most people will make, most of the time.

I also read Fine Homebuilding once a year. The magazine is useless in the UK - lots of technique articles for installing US products we just don't have. But their annual special issue has a lot more "showcase" content in it and is worth looking at.

American Bungalow, Old House Journal and a few others are worth picking up the od copy, to see what multi-million US "historical" houses look like inside. But when you've read one issue, you've pretty much read the lot.

Your newsagent should have a book which lists all magazines/ journals that the wholesaler supplies, with a brief description of frequency, content and who they are aimed at. (I should say that, this was at least the case 5 years ago when my parents still owned newsagents). Try some of the smaller newsagents if the bigger ones will not give let you look at it.

Although this may not be enough information for you to make a decision there and then, it should allow you to begin some further web research to aide in your selection.
