Lidl Bluetooth Device

I see Lidl are advertising a Bluetooth device for mobile phones next Thursday at =A39.99.

Seems very cheap. Has anybody any experience witth this device?

The non-Lidl one I use fits onto the sun visor. And it charges through a lead into a cigarette lighter-to-USB adaptor. It is not clear if the Lidl one could be used like that - can it attached to a visor in use? Nor if that cigarette lighter adapter is fixed. It looks like it can detach but nevertheless it might not conveniently fit in your vehicle.

But I'd be prepared to believe the price could cover a perfectly functional device.

Merryterry has brought this to us :

I've seen similar ones and was not impressed. Not loud enough and quite distorted. The party you are calling will also hear distorted sound due to the location of the mic.

I use an ear type and having tried several makes, I have settled on a type which has a small duct or channel to get the sound into your ear (Plustronics). This, rather than the type which push into your ear like a bung. The latter type block out external sounds and cause me irritation due to the poor air circulation in the ear canal - especially if you wear them like I do, throughout the day.

That's not a country-wide offer and it would have been helpful if you'd given an indication of your location.

However, on the assumption that it's the one that's on offer in London next Thursday, I have two of them in different vehicles, the second having been bought because the first was a success. I've had them for a couple of years.

Clearly, the closer to you that the power socket is, the better the results, but I find it totally satisfactory. Wouldn't have bought a second one if hadn't been good.

Thought you were not allowed to wear headphones while driving?

True. Not for driving, but OK where a bluetooth headset would be used in other activities like cooking, ironing, angle grinding ...

What does it enable your mobile to link to ?

If your mobile is bluetooth enabled, then with that device plugged into the cigarette lighter socket in your car you can simply jump into your car with your phone in your pocket and drive away. Should you receive a phone call while you're driving, it will automatically come through the "bluetooth device"; you hear it ringing through the speaker on the device and then press the button on the device to accept the call. The incoming sound comes through the speaker on the device and you speak normally, the microphone on the device picking up your speech.

Clear now?

Of course your phone does need to be bluetooth compatible, bluetooth must be enabled and the device must have been set up to recognise your phone, but that's not rocket science and only needs done once.

Very convenient.

Morrisons and Tesco do one at that price all the time.

Thanks for your explanation, I didn't understand from the brief product description that the device contains a microphone and speaker and is an end in itself.

Haven't seen either the Morrisons or the Tesco devices. Can't say whether they're similar or not.
