T8 and T12 have the same fittings - a G13.
The T refers to the fraction of an inch of the lamps diameter
T12s have a diameter of 12/12 and are one inch. T8 have a diameter of
8/12 inches (2/3 of an inch).As long as you bypass the ballast an LED tube will work in either.
All correct, except that the T numbers are in 1/8s of an inch, so T8 is
1" and T12 is 1.5".
Yes. The issue is the pin spacing on very old fittings.

I'm not aware of any different pin spacing used with T8 & T12. Even smaller tubes did use a different pin layout, but never T8, T12. T12 originally used BC caps, but hardly any of those fittings remain.
Assuming it's a T12 setup Brian is unlikely to run into trouble. If he does he might need to bypass the choke, or other ballast. I doubt there are any filament bulb ballasted luminaires left in the wild.
