Lead joins

I just saw Fred Dibnah cementing two stone blocks with molten lead, traditional ancient method of weatherproofing citadels etc. The stones were glued solid.

Is there a certain type of stone involved, anyone know? Would it work across the board with marble, slate and granite?

I would think it would work with most stone - but havent tried it. But what are you planning to do this way? Its not exactly an efficient process. Make your own bath?

Wouldn't it be more in the Dibnah spirit to make form your bath out of something like a nice 1" thick sheet of steel, on the "medium" press, that could do 48 a minute.
