Internet camera recommendation

May 02, 2013 6 Replies

I've got a Panasonic BL-C131 network camera that has worked well until I dropped it just now. It will work if wired to the network but not over wireless: the red LED on the front just blinks away and there's no response.

Can anyone recommend a decent camera that doesn't cost the Earth? It would need to be able to be operated across the web, be colour, able to pan and tilt and to upload images to an ftp address at regular intervals and when alarmed.

Can you strip it down? All that's probably happened is that a connection has parted when you dropped it. Open it up, and check for obvious things like loose plugs.

Thanks for that.

I've opened it up and everything's connected.

Checking its status through a wired connection shows an error (0000-0000-0000-0000-0000-0000-0002-0000-00) which, after a little searching, doesn't seem to be too unusual and means a dead unit.

Do I assume it can be resuscitated?

Dunno but I can make use of it in wired mode like you said it works ok that way but not wirelessly? Jim K

way but not wirelessly?

Ah, I see.

However, after a couple or three hours of working on it I've got it going again. There's a plug on one of the boards that needs to be tight in, and it wasn't.

I may still be in the market for another so if anyone has any recommendations...
