Ideas forum

A local civil engineer is planning to set up an ideas forum, once a month, on a quiet night in a quiet local pub. So the meetings are open to anyone. So someone has an idea for some sort of project but lacks the confidence or range of skills to see it through, firstly an assesment as whether feasible, alternative soulution, where to go for further developement . Could be a device for a disabled person not commercially available, a data processing idea , a grandiose idea of worldwide significance,a tool for a DIY proect, just about anything. So far 14 people interested , with a skills range including, civil engineering, mathematician, XL expert, microbiologist, electronics, plumber, mechanical engineer, commercial printing, chemist. Any hints/tips as to structure of meetings etc? First added idea is to cultivate a connection/cross-over with local Mens Shed and Hackespace groups.

Lawnmower racing in Sussex was 'invented' in the 70's by a group of slightly sozzled blokes in a pub in Wisborough Green.

A regular small spot of blue-sky thinking/outlandish mulling-over could lighten proceedings. Another general area of consideration, I've often come across. Where a standard product needs a modification either because of bad design or lack of foresight in designing the product, or allowing it to be used for a completely different use.
