Smart lightswitch oddity

For the sake of posterity, a power cycle fixed it. Amazingly "AI" advised correctly that there are 2 systems running in the switch and they can fail independently. Hence the wifi still working ...

I’d be very careful doing that.

We have a couple of these switches, the glass ‘front’ somehow dropped off one in a place where we reach in to touch the switch without looking.

If you just touch the ‘pad’ you are ok.

There are higher voltages on the surrounding PC, as I discovered.

That switch has been replaced due to another issue but the new one looked all but identical in layout.

As to your problem, you could try a Reset.

Sometimes just totally removing power will be enough- although this is more of a reboot. A reset will require you to, typically, re enter Wi-Fi details.

If that doesn’t work, typically a long press on the on/ off ‘button’ is the method and you get a change in the flashing LED rate or colour.

I tend to find such a reset does not always require a whole ‘start over’ adding to Apps like SmartLife, linking to Alexa etc. Typically, you need to search with SmartLife etc but, having found switch, it recalls the name you allocated etc. Likewise, Alexa seems pretty good at spotting previous devices.

I use Google Home. Which used to lose all the room and automation settings if you link-cycle an integration. Which was a PITA.

Now it seems it does recall what was. A bit too well - there are devices I have removed from Smartlife that I cannot get rid of in GH

In Alexa, as I recall, assuming you’ve used the Alexa / SmartLife skill ( Amazon’s buzz word for the ability for Alexa to work with, in this case, SmartLife controlled devices) you need to both remove the device from the SmartLife app and delete the corresponding device from the Alexa app.

While i’ve no experience of Google Home, I would think a similar approach would be a good start.

I keep thinking I should buy a GH device to play with, if only to increase my Geek factor. 😂
