how to download a video clip from utube

Without using any software you probably haven't already got: if you have VLC media player installed, use the <Media> menu and the option to play from a network stream. Insert the YouTube url and play it then hit the big record button at the start and toggle it off again at the end

Using an on-line helper: go to getvidnow.com youtubemonkey.com or any other download helper and paste in the url. But see my caution below.

Taking a chance: Fastest on-line helper I've found is telechargerunevideo.com which is in French but it usually tries to load nasty stuff underneath so watch out!

I always download stuff in a "sandbox" so telecharger's antics don't bother me but be aware that anything other than the slow, real-time download through VLC has the potential to download more than you asked for so beware!

I use Firefox with the "Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express" add-on.

Out of curiosity Nick how would you choose the highest HD version to download as URL remains constant for all definitions? It didn't ever occur to me to use VLC dow download from YouTube, only ever used dodgy plug-ins that do mischievous things.

Works well, and won't be littered with nasty stuff.
