Hotpoint WD640 washer dryer.
M/C is more than 3 and a bit years old.
Initial searching suggests a thermistor problem. Do these break down or just need a cleaning? Is replacement diy-able?
another search suggests error codes have changed.

Press Start.. error code appears on display. ..sounds like its filling with water but no water goes into drum or clear sopa drawer. Sound of water filling continues.

Any part is DIY fixable. I don't follow how it can sound as if water is going in without the water going in, unless you mean the solenoid valve is triggering.
A thermistor is simply a means of measuring the temperature - a THERMal resISTOR, a resistor deliberatly made to alter its resistance as temperature changes. It will look like a bead, with two wires coming out of it, if that is any help?
They should not need cleaning, but could fail.
The guys on the UK whitegoods web site online forum are very knowledgable and helpful. Might be worth asking on there.
I had a "00" error from an older model, the manual claimed it was due to below freezing temperature, turned out to be a wire broken from the temperature sensor, it lasted a few more years after I re-crimped it.
