hot water boiler on for 5 minutes a day.

hi, i'm leaving the house for a bit in december. the central heating has an outside boiler with an exterior thermostat to prevent it from the frost.

from my past experience things i turn off, often dont want to start up and work again. so would it be a good idea to set the inside house timer to activate the boiler for say five minutes a day to start heating the water and then just switch off, just to keep the system active?

or would that just be a waste of gas?

thanks for any advice.

Yes I think it is a good idea.

Obviously you want to make sure that the loft tank is well insulated as well.

Having the hot water and heating come on for a short while is a good idea because you will prevent them freezing, exercise the pump and the motorised valve.

The cost of doing this will be insignificant compared with repair costs if things freeze.

I don't. Leave the CH room stat at 16C and the system on 24 hours. below 15C is dangerous as fabrics in the house can be affected by cold and moisture. So when you comre back the house will be no less than 16C. It will not take too long to get it up to 20C when turned up to 21C.

It might stop the pump from seizing up

I'd have thought that if you leave the house thermostat on a suitable setting - say 10 C then in dec the heating will becoming on sometimes anyway - and will stop the house from freezing up
