I can't find the Honeywell ST299 when I google for it, so I'm not sure what sort of device it is (thermostat, programmable timer). However if it is either of those, then it is not needed when you have Hive: the Hive device is a combined thermostat and timer which *replaces* a separate thermostat and timer.

As a general guide, if your existing timer / programmer has a MK14 back plate, the Hive box should fit to it with no or minimal changes.

There is loads of information on the internet and the actual interface / wiring to the Hive controller is quite simple. It mimics a ‘dumb’ programmer at the interface, the clever bit is within the Hive system.

I installed our Hive system a couple of years back. It took under 30 mins, including setting up the Hive account for remote control etc.
