I can see that the individual plugs have been connected badly and the CU's a bit of a mess, but I really don't get the complaint that leads to spurs, new kitchen sockets, etc have been fitted inside the walls and consequently he can't see how good the cabling there is.

Surely that's what EVERY customer wants in their new electrical installation (it's exactly what I wanted - and got). So the validation process just has to have technical means to cope with that problem. Admittedly I paid a man with the correct qualifications to do the installation work, so he self certified. But what the heck!

Aren't there testers available that you use to verify the electrical "correctness" of hidden cables? You shouldn't routinely need to replace 30 year old cables just because you can't see them. It's the era of rubber covered cables that routinely need changing and she doesn't have a house that old.

And, from the point of electrical conformance, what the f*ck does it matter if visible trucking isn't 100% straight.

She has MICC wiring which we didn't see, but most likely has not had its ends sealed where connected to, and said ends probably are not accessible. That's a problem. It also has appliance flex used in lieu of cable. And many jboxes have been made inaccessible. And the CU without earth wires is mad. I can see why he wants to rewire.

So you missed where he took the sockets off the wall and found the loose lives wires and the missing earths and the cable bought out between the sockets and the boxes and the missing grommets and the other stuff like none earthed metal lights in the shower room, etc.

Well the start was done after the rest as he said he wasn't going to film it until he decided it was really bad.

I like the human hair stuck onto the painted skirting board where he read 169volts !.

The plastering was full of little holes and there were lumps of poorly rubbed down filler where the skirting was attached.

I suppose the thinking was anyone who can do such poor work by not making sure things were (visualy) plumb could also have 'dodgy' junctions or joints.
