I have a smaller stove replaced and now have a large gap because the cooker hob is a little oval and the originnal was square. How should i go about patching the hole?

Still got/can get the tiles (or whatever) ?
If not choose a contrasting material.
Build a deck within the original cutout, trimmed back to be rectangular with clean edges, replete with the new finish.
IGWS the new hob should go in the centre of the old/new opening. DG
