Garden hose problem

I have inherited a very long garden hose. I estimate 25 to 30 metres. It is yellow with a cross hatch reinforcement design. A type very popular years ago.



It is in good shape but the reel it was wound on is incompatible. Neither Hoselock or Gardena grip the conection.



So, a replacement is needed.



I want a wall mounted one, preferably retractable but without a hoze. Mine is perfectly sound. The diameter is somwhere between 15 and 16.5mm. It could have stretched with use but not by much I would have thought.



So suggestions for a source?

Oops, I have that wrong, it's the one from Screwfix I bought:-

Verve Bare Hose Reel - Item No 1742V £25.99 GBP 1 £25.99 GBP

I *think* Toolstation stock a similar one but didn't have it in stock when I wanted it.

Anyway, it works well, though I replaced the supplied wall fixings with my own.

I'm on my second one (the first lasted 6 years). They have a design fault in that when pulling off the hose it gets caught by the dome-headed nut which holds the reel handle on. I've tried various DIY solutions for this, but none worked. I haven't yet tried discarding the handle bolt, and fitting a countersunk one back-to-front. That should allow the hose to move freely off the reel.

Er, that's what I corrected myself to! :-)

It's not a problem I've noticed with ours really though I can see what you mean.

Oops! It always helps to read the post carefully...

I also see they refer to it as "Brass". Are they now made entirely of brass? Both mine were steel with brass connectors. In fact, that was the problem with the first one. It rusted through where the brass connector for the tap was screwed onto the pivoting arm. I guess the dissimilar metals didn't help either; perhaps the electrochemical difference enhanced the corrosion.

I just have an old car wheel without a tyre, hanging in a

6 inch nail in the fence post adjacent to outside tap. Been fine for 30 years but the South-facing sun means I have to keep the tap fitting enclosed in a 6 inch length of Mupvc pipe to keep UV Light off it.
