Freezer sprays?

Anyone know - is there any difference between medical freezer sprays and pipe freezer sprays?

Quantity, for sure. Medical freezer sprays are designed to cool the area, so you don't feel pain, not to deep freeze it.

Interesting.

There are two types of medical freezer spray those based dimethyl ether[4] or tetrafluoroethane, which kill tissue and are used to remove warts and those based on Chloroethane which is used as a subsititute for an ice-pack on injuries

While Wickes pipe freezer is also based on tetrafluoroethane and dimethyl ether same as the wart kiling medical spray.

So certainly useful to know if you either want to remove warts yourself, or freeze pipes.

Only don't use either as an ice-pack.

Thanks and 'that'll do' :-)

It's a skin tag which appeared around a month ago. I managed to find an old wart removal kit, with the sponge sticks, but the freezer spray had leaked out. That got me wondering about pipe freezer, which I already had in stock.

That is only the Wickes pipe freezer though. Maybe other pipe freezers are different and stronger so maybe best to check the specs on the makers website first.

The medical spray information was on this Wiki page

It may depend on what you want to do with it and the method of application.

I have successfully removed skin tags with freezer spray BUT NOT by squirting it on my skin.

I have dribbled the freezer liquid from the can on to a cotton bud, let the cotton bud freeze and then repeatedly applied the cotton bud to the skin tag so it freezes solid. The (electrical) freezer can came with a straw and by very gently pressing the spray top the freezer doesn't rapidly come out - instead drops of the liquid appear at the straw output. This is used to soak the cotton bud and then as the liquid evaporates the cotton bud rapidly freezes. This is when it is applied to the skin tag.

The completely frozen skin tag will take a week or so to fall off.

michael adams explained on 15/11/2020 :

Arctic Spray2 which suggests it is 1,1,1,2-TETRAFLUOROETHANE

I'm covered anyway, as you've no way of tracking me down if it all goes wrong.

On Dr Pimple Popper a few weeks ago someone had removed his own lipoma.

I'm surprised we haven't had more questions about diy dentistry this year.

Fortunately NHS dentistry has resumed (in Scotland). Had a root canal done (privately) this week as they can use composite filling material then (which is apparently much superior for dodgy teeth).

Funny how months of social deprivation can make a visit to the dentist for a root canal treatment feel like a nice day out. ;-)

michael adams has brought this to us :

What you mean my skin tag dropping off :-)

The dimethyl ether seems to be just a propellant.

A sharp scalpel blade is easier - heat it first if you don't know where it's been

If it's small, couple of mm or less, nip it off between your finger nails.

Had a wart a while back, looked at the proprietary home freezer kits and thought they are a lot of money for a tiny freezer spray and couple of cotton buds. Successfully dealt with wart in one "treatment" using an Air Duster (diflouroethane it says) and a cotton bud well soaked in the fluid and half a dozen or so applications to freeze the entire wart.

One thing my GP did was to tie a thin piece of thread tightly round it. It dropped off after a couple of days.

My GP surgery is the one for university staff and students. Years ago, they had a different approach. You were handed a small Dewar flask and sent to the chemistry building for some liquid nitrogen. On your return, this was applied with a cotton bud.

That's interesting. I have one over a bottom rib and clothing rubs on it when I'm walking. I don't want to cut it off as that could get messy - anticoagulant! The doctor tying it with a thread also, as I'd thought of doing that. The only reason I haven't had a go is that the dermatologist wanted to send it to the path. lab just in case. I was offered an appointment for it to be done - mid-April! Not worth the risk of going into town or into the hospital.

And definitely don't use a deep heat product to ease anal pain...

Put some potted meat on it and let a puppy nibble it off.

And when Voltarol mention the joy of movement they don't mean relief from constipation.

Couldn't they offer you a freepost envelope to send the home-removed item to the lab?
