Free software for scale drawings e.g. room layouts?

Sep 14, 2011 7 Replies

Does anyone know of any easy to use, free software which will enable me to draw a plan a room layout easily?

It's not something I do very often so I don't want to invest money in buying it or too much time learning to use it.

Thanks for any recommendations

Sketchup probably - It's free and what you learn can be used for other things like 3D work too.

I have come across some estate agenty software that was also very easy to use specifically for room plans

tried a trial version once and it was about as optimum as you could get.

I had some success with this:-

while ago.

if you google it you should get some month trial programmes thats what I did a couple of years back, that gave me some time to play around with them, get my design done and save it as a screen capture or a jpeg file for reference. any changes I needed after that were done on photoshop but any pic editor should allow you to alter them.

Rhino CAD free (full) demo will work forever as long as you don't export a picture or print from it more than ten times.

If installed under windows in a virtual machine, taking a snapshot post installation means you can get a new 'never saved a file' version any time you run out of saves...;-)

Try DraftSight. Excellent free 2D S/W that works with AutoCAD native file format.

If you've ever used AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT then DraftSight is very similar in many ways. It's free, but you have to register (for free, of course) within 30 days. It's very good too!
