According to the localish news the link between Normandy and Hampshire became operational yesterday , is the original Gridwatch recording this , the later copy GridWatch appears to have a dial IF2 that is now showing a reading . The cable which comes ashore near Gosport where the converter building is located on part of the former HMS Daedalus airfield ,the AC output then goes back out to an underwater route along the edge of Southampton Water which comes ashore again by the end of the tunnel which used to carry one of the two links from the now demolished Fawley power station . By doing so the grid line link rendered redundant by that closure to the National Grid Substation at Lovedean inland behind Portsmouth was able to be reused so avoided the inevitable objections a whole new route would have attracted, and presumably a second link by the tunnel back to Fawley and out on its other connection along the edge of the New Forest to Nursling near Southampton Lovedean was modernised and got some new equipment as part of the project.
