France - England electricity link

According to the localish news the link between Normandy and Hampshire became operational yesterday , is the original Gridwatch recording this , the later copy GridWatch appears to have a dial IF2 that is now showing a reading . The cable which comes ashore near Gosport where the converter building is located on part of the former HMS Daedalus airfield ,the AC output then goes back out to an underwater route along the edge of Southampton Water which comes ashore again by the end of the tunnel which used to carry one of the two links from the now demolished Fawley power station . By doing so the grid line link rendered redundant by that closure to the National Grid Substation at Lovedean inland behind Portsmouth was able to be reused so avoided the inevitable objections a whole new route would have attracted, and presumably a second link by the tunnel back to Fawley and out on its other connection along the edge of the New Forest to Nursling near Southampton Lovedean was modernised and got some new equipment as part of the project.

yes

It is amalgamated into the french dial and graph

Guess you don't believe in punctuation. My screenreader went into stream of consciousness mode during that. Brian

Fawley power station has not been demolished (yet). It was still there on Christmas day when I went to Calshot for the day. It looks a bit tatty, though.

Perhaps the OP was thinking about Marchwood? The old stations seem to have been demolished, it looks as though there are a couple of CCGTs and a waste incinerator there now.

No it was Fawley I meant .Half demolished then, the building has been stripped and has been partly brought down by explosives in October 2019 and November 2020 so it was no wonder that the Poster who saw it at Christmas thought it a bit tatty.

Originally the developers were going to keep the futuristic round control room building from which there are good views of Southampton water ,I knew some people who worked there and got to have a look around a couple of times but that is going as well.

This is what it used to look like.

A good article on the life and times of the Power station here.

My brain does much the same when I see your name in every thread even though you are just there to pass the time rather than make a meaningful contribution .
