My paypl payments are instant however ocassionaly there is a delay due to ebay (apparently) checking the buyer for suspicious activity or a delay from the buyers account (maybe insufficient funding)
Payments through eBay will be mandatory later in the year so you'll have to get used to it. The longest delay for money landing in my account is over the weekend, which is considerably faster than Paypal, where it only landed in my account when I asked for it, the system being designed to retain payments, and earn interest, as long as possible. I've had no problem posting out on receipt of the payment email. Not used Paypal for making payments for a month, either.
NEVER had a paypal delay.....always instant into my paypal account and instant transfer to my bank any time of day or week when I asked for it........
hate fekin ebay.....force you into thier payment system but don't tell you about the delay in payments reaching your bank where paypal was instant.......
there is one hell of an outcry on ebay community...people giving up selling right left and centre.....or refusing to send the item until funds are clear....don't blme them
Bank clearance policy is two days.
Surely a bank teller has pointed out the difference between what's printed on the receipt, and the fact "the funds aren't there until Monday".
The bank treasures its two day clearance time. Even for *internal* transactions (cashing out a financial vehicle you set up in that branch), there's still two day clearance.
And it's not limited to two days. Two days is the minimum for punters. The time could be a lot longer, if required.
The question for Ebay, is why involve a bank ? Is this part of money laundering monitoring, and the request came via a government ?
Did you know that the bank shows *all* your finances to the government, not just the transactions slightly above the threshold for monitoring ? This prevents doing N tiny transactions equivalent to one big transaction.
But it also means they're showing the government, more than you think. I detected this, by doing a certain transaction at the bank, and the government revenue agency sent me a letter :-/ And they could not have known, unless my entire transaction history was stored with the government. (The transaction was not taxable, but the timing of the letter was unmistakable. In other words, there was no "excuse" for them to know.) And this is an excellent reason to poop the transactions into a bank. For tracking.
For example, are any taxes due on the goods sold ? Think hard now... Think hard about your "exposure" when you're being tracked. Once the bank is involved in this, you'd better know your tax rules on sale items.
Somehow, I don't think this happened for funsies. There's got to be a reason for it. And the reasons aren't good reasons either. The two day thing, is the least of your problems.

not disputing that just saying paypal could give you your money instantly ....and transfer funds to your bank instantly.....ebay doesn't seem able to ...
Well it will slow the scammers down then
But only when you asked for it. With eBay, it's automatic.
Personally, I'm happy to take eBay's word that payment has been made, but if you are not that's your choice. Paypal are quick enough to reverse payments if it suits, even after the money's been handed over. I'd be more concerned if there were reports of eBay saying that payment had been made that did not translate into bank payments. Has anyone said that has happened? I wouldn't take much notice of anyone claiming to be giving up selling on eBay because of it. Where are they going to go that has the same number of users?
It needs some system to process payments. It reckons there's money to be saved by using a payments provider that's not Paypal. The company it's using, Adyen, does the donkey work and transfers the realisations directly into the seller's bank account daily, by default, or weekly, by choice. eBay gets its commission at the time of sale as well, rather than on a monthly basis, as with Paypal. eBay now also accepts payments by credit card so users don't have to deal with Paypal at all, so I guess that the commission that Paypal would have taken now goes to eBay, another useful revenue source. Can't see them eliminating it, or reducing it. The only downside of these changes for me is that I can't easily identify a seller from my credit card statement, as I could before, and thereby classify the types of purchase in my accounts, but that change has been happening for a while.
stupid argument
