If you are considering long duct lengths, check out the loss in efficiency - particularly with the corrugated plastic type duct. Looking at the packaging in a standard £25 kit, I noticed the extraction flow rate can drop by as much as 50% of free air rate for the fan when using flexible. If you want an extraction system that works, I recommend you look at the Vent Axia system calculator brochure. I'm not plugging Vent Axia, but their brochure makes you aware of things to consider when installing this stuff.

I originally wired my shower room fan this way. Bad idea in our house. The children sometimes leave the light on and we end up with the hot air being sucked out of the house. I have now moved to a separate ceiling switch.
