Awoken by a loud bang around 6am which kicked off my burglar alarm. Rush downstairs, and alarm is saying kitchen. Look in the kitchen and there's a bit of disarray, things fallen off the counter, but no sign of a break in. Back to bed to get some more kip.
Later I come down for breakfast. Being more awake, I notice the floor is slippery. Then I notice a white blast pattern on the door and the coats on the coat hooks. Checked the ceiling for a leak - I just had a shower which is directly above, but the ceiling isn't wet. Then applying a bit of forensics, I can work out the trajectory of the white splatter, and it points back to what was a fire extinguisher, which is now bent/torn aluminium in the form of an almost inside-out fire extinguisher. A wooden salad bowl which was next to it is also blown to pieces. A clock which had been on the wall is on the floor. Cupboard doors all have an oily splatter on them which is also what's on the floor. It was an EI Chip Pan fire extinguisher, probably 20 years old and never used. I have another identical one which looks fine. They say warranty expires end
