I have replaced my Qualcast hedgecutter with a Bosch model, almost identical but the lead is much shorter. To swap the leads would entail splitting the casing and I seem to have memories of springs leaping everywhere in the past, so don't want to do this. What would be the best way of joining old lead and new one. Would this involve too much of a voltage drop? Using an extension doesn't appeal either.

The practical way would be to cut the old lead off the Qualcast and fit a trailing socket into which you plug the Bosch.
