Information here may be outdated?
Everyone will get an id card. Armed police on the streets like in Spain at the moment. Brian

Oh dear, can you imagine the snowflakes whining if they have to carry an ID card.

Or photo driving licence or "yes I am over eighteen" card.

We don't have the 5 years it would take the UK government to organise it.
in my case it needs to be renewed every 3 years. You must be very young ;-)
I thought photo licences were mandatory, even for people who haven't had to have a new licence issued due to moving house. Evidently not.
I applied for one as soon as they were introduced because I realised that they would become a de-facto ID card - easier to carry a driving licence than a passport for proving your ID. I am very much in favour of licences carrying photos. I just wish the upgrade of photo didn't incur two costs - one for a new photo and the other for the DVLA to issue a new card with it on. Likewise with passports: the initial cost is fair enough because of the background checking, but paying to upgrade the photo is not.

But at least you can share the photo. And I don't believ you have to update the photo on every 3-year renewal. Pretty sure my son hasn't, and he renews every three years.
Every three years? Isn't the normal validity of a UK driving licence 10 years? How frequently does a licence have to be renewed once you reach a certain age (eg 70)? Isn't it only the eligibility to drive (a doctor's letter to DVLA) rather than the actual plastic card which is updated?
I agree it's useful now car licence and passport can share the same photo, though it means that my licence now has the same no-smile "corpse" photo that passports insist on.
Some might say that it's *you* who are the snowflake, what with your being apparently too lily-livered to stand up for yourself and resist unecessary government intrusion and regulation. :-)

More likely the green paper one - people moaned about it having your DoB on it, so they removed that, only for people to discover that your "driver number" includes DoB with the digits shuffled slightly.
It's a new card. I'm on no 4.
If you do no ones bothered to tell SWMBO'd who still has a pink and green bit of paper.
I would have that as well if I hadn't developed Parkinson's which is notifiable to the DVLA. Intially they only gave me a 3 year licence, that was renewed to 5 years.
When you reach 70, you have to renew the licence every three years.
You also (as in the case of my son) have to do so if you have certain conditions (he is type 1 diabetic).
