Double oven: grill underneath main oven?

Hi,

Anyone know if it's still possible to get double built-in ovens with the secondary oven/grill underneath the main oven? I'm refitting (rebuilding?!?) our kitchen, and would like one like my parents have. I don't want fat from the grill to spit in my face, like all the new ovens look like they will do. (Reminds my of one of the Flanders and Swann songs... "I'm delirious about our new cooker fitment with the eye-level grill. This means that without my having to bend down the hot fat can squirt straight into my eye!")

All the new ovens seem to have the secondary oven above the main oven. Is this some new regulation or energy design issue, or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Thanks,

I used to have a Neff one that was as you describe.

The trouble with the arrangement is that it puts the grill very low down and it becomes a PITA to see what's going on.

The compartment did make a reasonable oven for doing relatively small cooking jobs.

We used the grill very little because it was difficult to use and even more difficult to clean.

I wouldn't buy another, to be honest.

The NEFF double oven we bought recently, has the smaller oven at the top with the large oven below, but it has a full width grill built into both the top and bottom oven.

This means we can choose whether to grill at eye level or waist level (or both at the same time).

Ironically we bought a double oven for the eye level grill, but we've ended up mostly grilling in the lower oven because it has nifty telescopic runners that make the grill pan a doddle to pull out!

Thanks for your replies. I think my wife has now started to investigate ovens, so I'll probably have to go on her "recommendation" anyway!

You can buy those runners as a retrofit for the other oven should you wish.

Consider getting a microwave/grill and a separate 'pure' oven. Depending on how you cook this can work well and save having a third unit. And you can mount either on top.
