Replaced the bulb in the bell push with two LEDs in inverse parallel and a series resistor, picked to limit the current to 10mA ish, sorry can't remember the value, no problems since 2017.

I still haven't done this job. A further question:
Can I use any old cable I have in the shed? I only need a short length and it doesn't matter if it's too thick, does it?
As long as I can make it tidy obv. I don't want to be left with a 50m reel and I don't want to pay a tenner for a diy length.
