Doorbell cams?

These cameras also work like that. I just chose to use the FTP option.

I set these up using Firefox (although I needed the app for 2 minutes first).

However they could still feed a picture to something like Zoneminder which allowed you to configure zones etc.

Do you happen to know the make / model or have a link please Bob?

Inductive power though a wall should be doable as it's often easy to get something mains powered on the inside but not outside (no drilling though the wall required etc).

Depends on the wall thickness, I suspect - and the material it's made of.

I expect it is standard 2.4Ghz tech, but with proprietary comms to lock the purchaser into Amazon's data collection.

Hang it under a Freesat or Skysat dish and tap into the power that comes from the stb ?. Assuming you have a wall-mounted dish on the same side of the house being monitored.

So, on the Blinks, can you confirm if it's possible to access them from two devices (say a Smartphone and Tablet) at the same time please?

If so I think it would be the sort of thing I'd put round Mums and probably monitor them myself, along with her etc?

Obviously there could be some contention issues but I predict them to be logical / predictable (last one registers any changes etc).

Yes, you can. My wife has a view on her phone, and so have I. I'm guessing it is not very smart, e.g either of us can probably disable one or both cameras if we want to.

I had not thought of it in the context of supporting the elderly.

I *have* thought how useful it might be to share Google Calendar with someone who needed support, though. Namely, setting appointments as reminders, and potentially setting alerts as well (you would have to share the login for that, so would have to enter appointments from two accounts, one of which they could not delete, so that you could then inspect their calendar to make sure they had not deleted the alerting one).

Considering them at Mums. I could fit one inside the front porch looking down and at the side alley and because it would be sheltered,

If I was to fit another (range dependant) on the garage at the bottom of the garden looking back at the house, it too could be mains powered, should the need arise.

I may need to put the hub at the back of the dining room to put it equidistant to both cameras and the hub should also still be able to reach the router in the hall.

The only issue for the porch camera would be the risk of having it stolen but I might be able to secure it with a wire line (from a fishing shop) or again, slightly encased in a 3D printed cover.

If it wasn't for the motion detection it could have been inside the bay window and so easily mains powered. ;-)

Takes me back to when I was going to present the Lotus Notes courses. I was ok with the 'Basic admin' (that covered some basic server setup and basic application development), and was also fine with the two levels of System Admin, it was just the Applications Development side really wasn't my thing. ;-(

And I was reminded about that just now setting up a task in the 'Smart Life' app (but that's for another thread). ;-)

Did you do any real-world range testing of the Blink cameras by any chance please?

Ah, OK.

The front one is a foot or so below a window that has line of sight to the hub, perhaps 3 metres. The back one is nearly 20 metres, again just about with line of sight through a large window. The hub is pretty small, easy enough to locate anywhere but in my case it is close to the router.

I'll have to have a pace that out but I think ~20m could be the distance to her garage from where the hub could be in the rearmost room (and I believe the hub is wireless so could go anywhere there was power).
