Our Solid wooden front Door expands in damp weather and then rubs against the frame, then it dries out in dry weather and is alright again.
During this recent dry weather period i painted around the edge on the door to stop it 'absorbing' moisture from damp weather and then expanding. However After this recent painting It now sticks again. I notice there is more space at the top of the door showing that it has sagged slightly over the years. Also the new layer of varnish around the door edge and Jamb (Frame )has probably closed what little clearance that was there before painting.
Looking at this video below on youtube (and several others who use the same method ) it shows how to fix the Sagging Door by putting a washer/coin under the top hinge on the door.

Since what this chap does surely would increase the distance of the top of the door to the Jamb (Frame) at the top. This is opposite to the direction i would have thought needed to counteract a door Sag.
What seems to be needed to me is for the top of the door to be pulled closer into the Jamb on the hinge side of the door. Like sinking the hinge further into the Jamb. So then that distance should be decreased 'not' increasd by the thickness of the added Coin ? Could someone here more clever than myself explain please how what he does works satisfactorily in this video ?
