Some experience as private landlord, tenants don`t need sprinklers to tempt them into damaging stuff attempting upgrades.Can do plenty of damage with just a shower.

Sprinkler seems to need 68C to trigger, if tenant has deliberately attempted anything that achieves those temps at sprinkler point, beyond eviction for criminal damage, likely be looking at several years for attempted arson.

It's absurd to put sprinklers inside the flats in a concrete tower block. Almost as absurd as using plastic window frames or wrapping it in flammable material.

Some decent smoke and heat alarms and attention to the fire proofing between dwellings is all that's required.

These blocks have been up since the 1950s, and it's only the recent changes that have made them a problem. So, reverse those changes, and they'll be safe again.

And cold and leaky and damp and full of mould and boiling hot in the summer.

I didn't mean literally. But the original blocks *were* fire-safe, so any changes should be made in such a way as to retain that feature.

Cladding that doesn't fall off or catch fire is fine. The original windows were mostly metal frames, so the replacements should be, too.

Metal windows now have heat breaks, guess what happens when the heat break melts on most windows.

Ah, someone else that hasn't seen the work done on active ventilation in building fires. In fact it has little effect on fire progress and large positive effect on survivability.

What portion of the rent is the allowance?

Well as nobody seems to want to say then the answer is 100% of the rent is available for people on a low income.

For example a pensioner will get about £150 per week from state pension

• pension credit. They will get 100% housing allowance if they are in social housing so for £1700 pm they get £392.31 per week. They also get contribution to council tax of about £16 per week assuming a council tax rate of £1100.
