DIY Meet 12th April

I think last time we had maybe 8 or so turn up. It's just a jolly evening where we muse about whatever we want.

I suppose part P and politics will have to come up on this occasion.

If you'd seen the pictures you'd realise why :-)

"Darling, drink makes you so beautiful"

"But I haven't been drinking"

"No but I have"

't remember who the chap on the left in the 3rd picture was. Maybe it really was you-know-who :-)

Have you been here recently? Ever?

Which bits are not dirty and don't smell then? Has it turned into Monte Carlo?

I'm sure that would be much more fun. More fun than being naked up a tree wearing only a frock.

That'll be the John Stumbles Acme camera filter. Dunno why he doesn't trademark it, he could make a fortune! ;)

Actually I just put up a random selection of pictures from GQ online :-)

The clothes, I thought, were quite old fashioned. Why would you want smocksand gaiters?

That's a question not an answer...

The classic victorian semi's, in glorius cheshire brick, with ornate facias that I am looking at right now from my office window for one. Look pretty well maintained too.

There are plenty of bits that are not dirty or smelly by most normal peoples measures actually.

When were you there?

A couple of years ago. Not that impressed. Lots going on, that is for sure, and all for the better, but still a long way to go. Salford Quays is very good, a nice dock conversion, and other bits here and there. The city centre I find characterless compared to the likes of Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff. Unlike Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh there are no notable buildings that stand out. The cities that stand out in the word tend to have waterfronts. Manchester lacks that, that is why Salford Quays stands out, and that is not even in Manchester.

Another thing. That airport is in the wrong place, way too south of the city and all the other towns that matter. A pain in the rear end. It serves the north Midlands better than the north west. Between Liverpool and Manchester, there was the US air force base at Burtonwood. The ideal place for an airport for the whole north west region. Instead two airports at cities only 30 miles apart. Madness!!!! Between the two of them they do shift some passengers though, and both are being extended.

Did they import them from Manchester?

So it can't be in the wrong place!

It's within easy reach of a large area and has flights to all over the world. We took next doors to get a direct flight to Australia on Monday, less than a two hour journey there and back, within the speed limit and including unloading them.

Manchester is the main airport of the north west. It is in the wrong place and I have stated why. I used to get the shuttle up and then find it difficult to get to Preston or Blackburn by taxi. There should have been one large airport at Burtonwood which is central.to the north west.

The wrong area though, with west Yorkshire and north Midlands being better served than people in the further parts of the north west.

Irrelevant to the main point.

You should have told them that in the 50s. I'm sure they'd have taken your advice above all their experts.

It was voted European Airport of the Year in 2001, 19 million passengers a year can't be wrong.

Yorkshire and the north Midlands are far more densely populated than those areas.

Glasgow is a choice for the far north west, it's not as convenient for Tykes..

Not at all, it's what users want and have.

It cold be argued that Heathrow is in the wrong place, or well, any airport. You'll never please all the people all the time.
