Dipstick tailgator

I've had an HGV tailgating me so close all I could see in the rear view mirror was their radiator grille. That was on a motorway with a roadworks-induced speed limit (50mph perhaps), that the HGV driver didn't appear to think should apply to him.

It would, however, have been good driving practice to exit the roundabout into lane 1 and only move into lane 2 when you got close enough to the car in front to overtake.

When I was being taught, by a chap who insisted I thoroughly learn Roadcraft (then a white paper with a section on the proper use of the bell), lane 2 was known as the overtaking lane, as that was the only time a vehicle should be in it.

nightjar submitted this idea :

Why, I was already progressing much faster than the car in L1 and there was absolutely nothing behind me at that time wishing to overtake.

Not true - you can use that lane if you want to turn right. HC160

You're saying that during all those years that you spent wailing about Brian Reay's speeding conviction you actually had a conviction for careless driving?

Sadly your hypocrisy doesn't surprise me.

Still not good driving practice.

Having just exited a roundabout onto a dual carriageway, that wasn't likely to apply.

Can I win one of these advanced driver competitions?

A no-lose situation for me.

If I had not got back onto the M18 in time to beat the mobile home I could have taken the first junction off the M180.

Oh, for Christ's sake. You've been told lots of times, and won't have it, and there's no point in saying so again, but that is an excellent illustration of the problem on the roads you were driving on.

Too much traffic for such niceties these days.

I usually manage it. Of course, slow outside lane hogs can make it difficult.

How much have you paid to Car Parking companies in the last few years? Bwah ha ha ha !

Less than you've paid in advanced exam fees.

It's not your job to uphold the RTA and enforce his adherence to the speed limit. Andy B is correct, you should have let him pass because if he's the idiot you claim then you want him in front of you not behind you.

I doubt that ! Tee Hee !!

I'm sure you do. But, then again, you're an idiot CBer.

That's perfectly executed.

Good job.

Especially those with a "much larger car than.." syndrome. Worst offenders on motorways I use are Volvo SUV, Audi SUV and BMW SUV. IME the people who drive Merc SUVs tend to not behave as if they own the outside lane.

Ours clocked me [big red flashing numerals] doing 39mph in a 40mph area.

Stopped and went to ask them what was going on, and they said "it's stuck at 30, and we can't change it to 40". So that's alright then.
