Diplomat/SMEG ADP 8242 Dishwasher no water input

Our dishwasher appears to start ok, the motor runs but no water is coming into the body of the machine. How do I check whether the valve is malfunctioning or is it a software issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Clip a voltmeter onto the valve, see if it's getting power.
