Digital Camera Repairer recommendation (uk d-I-y, but not DIY)

So, I'm assuming something between a 400D to 550D at about 10 years old? Maybe a 40D or 50D if she was lucky ...

but I'd read into it that parts are no longer available for models they list as "cleaning only" or that they don't list at all ... plenty on eBay either body-only or with the kit lens under a ton

Is there any point in repairing such an old camera? Is there are modern one that takes the same lenses?

Broadly any 2 or 3 digit EOS camera will take any EF or EF-S lens.

They are very probably right. If it is one of the common shutter wear alignment faults you might be able to find the details to execute a DIY repair. At least with digital cameras you don't have a huge spring and myriad small parts that that all fly out when you undo the last screw.

Depends what you consider reasonable. They typically charge around £100 just to strip it down and assess it then time and materials to repair.

TBH a decade old high end DSLR camera will be left standing by newer models so unless it has sentimental value Jessops were probably right. How did they manage to wreck the lenses?

I sometimes cringe when I see the way that some people treat good cameras. I think some people have them as expensive status gifts - when they would have been better to have has a compact or even a phone. Seeing them on a beach or out in the rain - or worse - kids with their fingers on the lens.
