Counterfeit MCB's

If anyone reads the IET's Engineering & Technology magazine, in the current issue is an article "Electrical industry fights fakes".

It has a picture of counterfeit and genuine MCB's side by side with the covers removed.

The fake has literally just a crude switch inside it. No current sensing or fusing. Unless you opened it up or tested it with an overcurrent, you would never know (until it failed to trip when necessary and your wiring melted).

particularly if there are similar fake versions of more popular branks like MK about (which seem likely to happen if it hasn't already). I guess one could test them fairly safely with appropriate loads from a car or van battery.

On the plus side the MG brand seems to be fitted quite frequently on the Pikey Camps I have worked on. They like to supply their own parts to save money:)

From reading the article it would seem you'd have to be a bit dozy not to spot the fakes as they're a lot lighter than the real things.

Not if it was built up into a consumer unit. And no doubt whoever is making them will have added a bit of dummy weight inside them in response.

That's _only_ 500mm

You need this 5200mm one but don't take it for wedding photography, it's inappropiate no matter how "wild life" the bride looks ;-)

Actually, taking pictures in the sky seems to be its application. The following 1700mm is thus a compromise...
