Cost of shower replacement

Finger in the air time.

My brother has just had a shower replaced. It was a bog standard Mira mixer shower, hot water feed nearby, no new plumbing involved. The plumber said that the plasterboard behind was rotten, so this needed to be replaced as well. Basically, we're talking about a new ceramic tray, new tiling (big, cheap, easy to cut tiles) new shower and new enclosure. Think Ford Mondeo and not Bugatti Veyron.

How much should this cost, as a very rough ballpark estimate? The bill for the work has come in at £1600 which seems a tad on the steep side to me.

Thanks

Edward

Why are you so bothered? Send your brother to the newsgroup and we can ask him further questions about the work done and his fully itemised bill.

8 hours per day @ =A3100 per hour - so a 2 day job - sounds about right to me, If that includes the cost of the materials too, then he has a good deal!

£150 -£200 for the Mira, £100 - £150 for a basic enclosure, tray around £40. With the tiles/adhesive/grout etc you are up to £400 minimum for materials. Add plasterboard, plumbing, waste. Day rate for one man £160 - £200, say three days for the job - thats a grand already based on cheap components.

Could be a £250 Mira, a £300 enclosure, an £80 tray - that racks the materials up to £600/£700 + labour.

Depends how long it took how many men to do. Not enough info really.
