I agree. Appalling.

So what if they're only £8.33 each? If someone wants a budget drill driver it will probably do the job for light drilling work. The OP is after something budget after all and doesn't want to drill masonry

The Aldi drill substantial 24v or thereabouts.

Could be one of many places, Johnson is a global company. It's possible that these motors are made in China, where a load of Bosch and Makita stuff is also made.

This man, Lord Hall, is clearly a racialist. He sneers products made by certain races. Appalling.

That would be very dishonest, though.

Because it's akin to stealing.

So £103 for a 18v DeWalt battery is honest sales?

Absolutely. You don't have to buy it.

Just as dishonest, IMO, as universally quoting £42 for a consumable (not ex-stock) that was once an integral part of a £40 deal. They lost a former customer, and possibly that decision may influence other potential buyers reading this.... Why are any spares and consumables so transparently exhorbitantly priced? Jim Jim

Because I have a look in at the us&aussie site of aldi seems they don't send their sh*te over there, the us site as of know has a portable petrol generator never seen things of this ilk in the uk based aldi?

You don't *have* to buy the parts, as indeed you didn't...

Yup.

a) It's a way of making money; b) Costs are greater, per item, than for the original tool.

All this stuff that's said about buying expensive tools "because you can get spares/service" is nonsense when the spare/service costs the same as a whole new tool.

Hm. They don't always have tools here. Perhaps the way to find out is to ask on a Yank n/g, or keep an eye on that site.

(According to a feature in The Times T2 section a few weeks ago about global expansion and booming UK patronage of Aldi, Lidl, and Netto), there are actually two (feuding) Aldi efforts, Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud, who by mutual arrangement sell similar but different merchandise in separate areas / countries. 10 tagged sub C cells from the likes of Rapid cost about 21 quid.

Because they are slow moving and take up space? If you price up the cost of making a car out of spares, you'll find it costs about 10 times as much

- ignoring labour.

[Jim Gregory] :

Because for most people total cost of ownership is secondary to first cost. As King Gillette - "give away the razor, sell the blades" - realised decades ago.
