Controlling smartplugs using phone away from home

I was under the impression that the path was triangular, the plug firmware vendor's site being the third leg. I don't think the plugs set up connections to both Google and Amazon to open holes in your firewall. I think they open one to, say, Tuya's, and then Google or Amazon tell Tuya to communicate over that path, to reach your socket.

Actually it can be alot worse than that. Smart devices are an easy target into your network and then pretty much anything can happen.

I keep mine on an isolated network. I do have to switch the phone to it for new devices. Perhaps I should have a second phone....
