Control kob for 25 year old gas hob

We've somehow lost one of the four gas control knobs on our very old Candy hob. No label anywhere visible to narrow it down. But it matches none of the 13 shown here:

I'll continue the search in the morning but meanwhile can anyone recommend a site that specialises in 'legacy' spares please?

Also, I'm hoping that the shaft diameter on gas hobs has remained unchanged for

25-30 years? If so I may have to use a substitute/

This universal knob comes with 5 spindle adapters indicating that sizes may not be standard

Oh dear. Lets start at the start and do chapter and verse.

There are two common shaft diameters. 1/4" and 6mm. There are three common shaft styles. Plain, D shaped and splined. There two common diameters of bush thread around the shaft - M8 and 3/8" UNF. There are dozens of knobs available, and you are probably best advised to pick a whole set that looks ok and fits rather than trying to match obsolete ones

Without a photo of the knobs not much more can be said.

Thanks both, very helpful. But will post a photo tomorrow, together with dimensions.

Find a friend with a 3D printer. They could copy one of the remaining knobs.

On th diameter issue, shaft diameters have in general moved from 1/4" to

6mm.

But wouldn't have on a very old hob.

Er? Are we replying to the same post? Bob:

"Also, I'm hoping that the shaft diameter on gas hobs has remained unchanged for 25-30 years? "

Me: "On the diameter issue, shaft diameters have in general *moved* from 1/4" to 6mm."

Which to normal literate people implies that they used to be 1/4" and are now likely to be 6mm.

Which you reBUTted by *confirming*!

Jeeesus!

I was commenting on Terry's OP and yours.

That was Terry's.

Which is irrelevant to Terry since that isn't true of his.

No.

That fool ain't gunna save you.

Buy a set of different ones and then they will all match? Brian

Even if I could find a roughly similar button that would be a very expensive solution. Many of these single buttons have prices of £15 - £25. Obscene! Plus delivery typically £3. That's for ONE button. And it would go against the grain anyway, as the other three originals are fine.

Thanks. In fact I've decided to print one on my own 3D printer. I was initially reluctant as I'm absorbed in an unrelated project and didn't want to get side-tracked. Plus impatient to get the knob back. Also, I use OpenSCAD and skill is rusty after a long gap.

The sort of buttons I get are around 50p each.

I found over a thousand 'candy cooker knobs' on ebay. None more than £20 a set.

Check ebay, £10 or less for a set of 4!

Really? Using your search entry gives 135, including many apparent duplicates. I'd estimate about 100 products at most. And BTW, 49 of the 135 were over £20 (with one at £40).

Hope to have my 3D print finished tomorrow. But as a potential backup I have ordered the set shown in my screenshot, from those 135. So thanks to you and Alan for reminding me about ebay.

Thanks Alan. As per my reply to The Natural Philosopher, duly ordered from ebay.

FYI here are the dimensions I promised. Note in particular that despite the hob's age its spindle does have a 6mm diameter.

Thanks Andy. But as per my 15:29 reply yesterday I ordered the similar set shown in my screenshot from ebay for £5.45. Still hoping to get a successful 3D print though ;-) Might still then decide to install the cheap matching set of four, although they look radically different to the existing originals.
