Combi Boiler recommendation

I have my plumber turning up tomorrow morning to discuss and then install my boiler.

I would like an idea of informed opinion on the make of boiler as some seem to have fallen from favour, some are twice the cost of others.

It is a semi detached and condensing combi situation to be legal. I would appreciate coments on non-condensing.

This is a vaillant area and they do seem good makes, if hideously expensive.

Cheers.

Vailant and Worcester Bosch seem the most highly regarded nowadays. I've got a WB (not a combi though) and am very happy with it.

I'm very happy with my Worcester Bosch Greenstar HE. It's not working at the moment, but that may be something to do with the fact that I've removed the flue and isolated the power...

You may be getting confused between condensing and combi. You must have condensing (very unlikely to get an exemption on a semi). You do not have to have a combi. Whether to go for an instantaneous hot water system or a storage based solution depends on your circumstances and we don't have enough information to recommend going either way.

I got a Worcester 28 CDI

(Didn't have much choice, the plumber likes them.)

Thanks for the ideas all. :))

Is your plumber ex British Gas? They like them so much coz apparently the BG boilers are rebadged WB's, so they have all the training and familiarisation already.

Apart from saying that I like X, y & z models I'm pretty explicit about saying get the most expensive model you can afford (unless tarting up for touting).

I explain the key features which make for better models or not.

What you pay is what you get, AFAICT. Those that cost twice as much may not be twice as good, but they may well be better made, and have spares that are half the price or less.

I could suggest some models if you had said what power and type of boiler you require. Also whether the flue is easy or a very awkward route.

The difference between a Vaillant (say Ecotec Pro 28 - around £860 with flue and VAT) and a cheaper model is not large compared with the fitting cost.

I've got a Worcester Bosch 40 CDi and it is great, but am currently no entirely happy with the hot water supply - see my other post.

Tis quiet, efficient and a great piece of kit. The wireless optimisin

7-day programmable room stat that they do as an extra is great though
