Cheap Flues for Wood Stove ?

I'm going to put a small Pot belly wood stove in my work shop, looking aound, I found Machine mart sell one's for around £100-£120, but the flues cost more than the stoves !!

I don't want to go traight through the roof (Insulated), but through the side walls (concrete panels), so I need 2*45 deg joins, Rain Check cone, Wall through plate and about 2M of tubing.

Can anyone recommend a cheap flue supplier or other options (like 5" Cast Iron drain pipes) ?

Thanks in advance

Not if you are going to keep to building regulations, no.

Wood fires can have VERY hot flue temps, and buld up creosote type tars that can catch fire and make a metal flue red hot.

For this reason, wood fires are required to be inside sealed metal flues and those have to be inside at least

- eiher insulated metal casings

- or ceramic lined brick stacks

Neither of these are in anyway cheap. Yes, mostly you will sepnd in excess of 200 quid on a simple flue, and up tpo £1000 on a specialised one.

Those are the issues, and more or less from memory, the regulations.

Its up to you waht you do, but my advice would be to opite the bullet, get stainless steel double walled insulated and do teh job properly, knowing even if you never sweep it, a flue frire won't burn the house out.

(Oh, I have had 5 flue fires in my time. They are VERY easy to start in chimneys where tarry coals or woods have been burnt).

Following on from this, when we had ours swept a few months ago the sweep recommended we burn a bit of smokeless coal on it with the wood, he said it would keep the deposits in the flue down a bit.
