Ceramic hob

Do I need a dedicated 30amp cable from the consumer unit for a ceramic hob or can you just plug them directly into a standard socket? Or do they vary?

Vary but I'd be surprised to find a hob with a maximum load of only 3kW, that most you can take from a 13A plug.
