Good Morning DIY Friends

Thanks to all that responded to my initial post "Central Heating Wireless Stat Recommendations".

I decided to go for a pretty basic programmable wireless stat, as our demands on the upstairs heating are straight forward. The model chosen was the Honeywell/Resideo Total Home item.

Although it looks like it will perform all the necessary functions, I am not totally happy with this. These seem to be supplied by a company called Hannicks, rather than being full blown Honeywell product. The quality does not stand up to previous Honeywell kit I have bought, but maybe this is just symptomatic of the general race-to-the-bottom and disposable everything these days. The operation does not seem too intuitive although that might be an age thing.

The most frustrating aspect is that when you tap a button to illuminate the display, the button function is quite often actioned as well e. g. turning off the stat accidentally.

None of these are show stoppers of course on a set-and-forget device. However, the fact that it only has two time periods programmable (which I knew before purchase) does I think limit its appeal for more general use.

Hannicks is the UK distributor, not the manufacturer which is Resideo. The domestic controls business was spun out of Honeywell in 2018 but they continue to licence the Honeywell name.

It does sound a bit half-baked. I ripped out the Resideo system my heat pump installer fitted as it was woefully unsuitable, although the actual touch screen UI was ok. I'd guess the UIs for things with calculator LCDs and little rubber buttons are probably worse, but then they always were poor.

That seems to be common for a lot of heating controls back to mechanical days - a morning period and an evening period. On electronic ones you were luckier in that you could even have different weekday and weekend settings.

Although supposedly the TotalHome has four periods per day?

Thanks for the clarification Theo. Yes I had seen the Resideo name but got crossed wires on the company roles clearly.

Having setup the device, it seems that the four "time schedules" are switching (or temperature change) times. So effectively two "ons" and two "offs".
