Cavity wall insulation.

We had this put in about nine years ago . A chap from EAGA came around he said the insulation had been done incorrectly and he needed to "upgrade" it. This is a council house and apparently they are working with the full backing of the council. They haven't asked us to sign anything or pay anything but this whole thing smells to high heavens. Has anyone any experience of cavity wall insulation done badly and/or does anyone have any experience of EAGA in the Edinburgh area?

Contact the housing department of your local authority ASAP and ask them to confirm that they have authorised this company to carry out the works - and then give the housing manager a rollicking for not informing you beforehand in writing.

And also inform your local councillors of what's happened - even better if you can organise a posse of neighbours who are in the same situation and go mob-handed.

Here is a link to their website:

a matter of interest, you can refuse entry to EAGA's operatives until the council have confirmed that EAGA are officially contracted to them.

much distance between myself and them as fast as I could.

'leading provider of residential energy efficiency solutions'

'the company has built a national footprint of 30 key locations'

'As shareholders eaga?s employees interests are aligned with those of our external shareholders and their engagement...'

Ugh!

Eaga were the company who dished out the grant cash from the govt to the insulation companies that installed CWI - they didn't actually do any insulation work - they were an agency (they do insulation work now, but they didn't then)

I was an installer for about 12 years on and off, with different firms, all of them dealt with Eaga.

I suppose there's a possibility that the contractor who did your estate was employing unscrupulous scallies who were simply drilling and pointing, rather than actually put anything in the wall.....if he was later found to have done shit work elsewhere and investigated, they may be scoping some houses on your patch to check the insulation densities.

I wouldn't worry about anything, because A) the work was done via a 100% grant and B) it's not your house anyway.

If anyone is liable to pay, it will be the original contractor (if he ain't done a runner), or CIGA who issue the guarantees, and if neither of these cough up, then Eaga will have to, because they were the regulatory body at the time.

Eaga allocated about £1bn of Govt grants from around 1995 - 2005

Thanks all, after phoning lots of places at the council eventually found someone who was willing to "own the problem" (thanks Cam Nisbet) he contacted the city surveyor etc., and phoned back telling us "yeah they knew about this company and the situation was on the up". Gave us their direct number to this company and a contact name, she assuaged any concerns I might have. Will have to "chat" to the guys doing the work tomorrow to find out why they are having to do this "upgrade", perhaps it is (or is a variation of) what Phil L said. Anyway it is costing us bupkiss and it is the councils walls, all we have to do is put up with the noise for an hour or so. So best of luck to them, I am signing nowt.
